DemoDay gives first-year high school students a taste of higher education in engineering. In a unique event concept in Finland, students will have the opportunity to get to know the different laboratory and research facilities of Turku University of Applied Sciences, the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and Yrkeshögskolan Novia in the field of technology during one day in the form of demo workshops. The aim is to inspire high school students to study technology, science and health.

The list of demos to choose from have included for example an interactive physics show at Åbo Akademi, a demonstration of the University of Turku’s KITSAT mini-satellites, testing of Yrkeshögskolan Novia’s ship simulators and a visit to Turku University of Applied Sciences’ health technology laboratory.

In 2023, DemoDay participants were offered more than 60 different demos, from which they could choose two.

DemoDay started on a smaller scale in 2022, and by 2023 it had already attracted around 1 200 high school students from Turku, Parainen and Raisio. The next DemoDay will take place on 8 February 2024. The universities in the Technology Campus Network will organise the DemoDay event in cooperation with STEAM Turku.
